Opening the camera

Before opening the camera

The flash capacitor can retain a dangerous charge after switch-off, even with the main battery removed. Read the model-specific service safety notes before opening the camera. Internal electrical work requires suitable training and equipment.

Read the safety and source notes

Sony warns about retained flash-capacitor voltage in the FD97 service note (Level 1, PDF p. 4) and FD100/FD200 service note (Level 2, PDF p. 6). Read the complete discharge and handling instructions before internal work.

Do not open battery packs or use swollen or damaged batteries. Keep coin cells away from children. Copy your photographs before formatting, resetting or starting repairs.

Service manual levels

Level numbers identify separate Sony service volumes. Their contents depend on the camera and edition. The older FD71 manual uses one volume with numbered sections.

FD97 Level 2 sends FC-85 circuit details to Level 3, which is read alongside Level 2. The FD100/FD200 combined scan has Levels 2 and 3; the separate FD200 AEP/UK Level 1 covers that model and region only. Supplements, corrections and training documents have their own labels in the archive.

How the notes are checked

Each guide cites the manual pages used to write it. Document records have been checked against their covers and internal volume covers, not audited circuit by circuit. Mavica.net has not carried out the repairs described here.

The archive is incomplete. The model table lists known gaps, including correction sheets whose base manual is still needed. A blank language or part-number field is left labelled rather than filled from another model.

Search & source files

Search covers these guides, operating-manual chapter names, video titles and service-document records. It accepts German and English topic words. Private service-PDF text is excluded.

Service PDFs remain private until redistribution rights are clear. The records link to the source host and give the exact edition and PDF page count.
