Power, disk insertion and recording-mode checks from the handbook.

Before startingNo disassembly is needed for these checks.
Check power first
Check that the battery is an InfoLITHIUM pack and that the floppy disk is seated properly. For short battery life, the FD71 handbook lists incomplete charging, cold conditions and an ageing battery.
Check recording settings
For a camera that powers on but will not record, check that PLAY/CAMERA is set to CAMERA and that the disk is not write-protected.
If it still fails
Write down the full error code and what the camera was doing when it appeared. Check the code reference for this model. If the handbook checks do not clear it, seek repair advice before opening the body.
